Financial Freedom: My Top 6 Frugal Activities

As someone who enjoys her share of breweries here in Colorado, living on a budget also means finding some fun frugal activities to enjoy. If I don't, I get stressed about money and it is not any fun for anyone. This doesn't mean we do not ever spend money on adventures, more on that later, but it does mean going back to the basics sometimes. Here are my top 6 activities I love to do that are cheap or free.

1. Movies & Popcorn.

For a movie theatre, we go to AMC, and here they have $6 movie Tuesdays now. I believe this year they went up a dollar. This is a great way we get out of the house. Plus, I do like to splurge on popcorn when I go. If you want to be extra frugal, bring your own popcorn (I've never done this, but I have seen people who do this).

This is also a great night at home. Pick a movie out on the tv and make some homemade popcorn and you have yourself a relaxing night in.

2. Hikes or Walks.

With it being almost 70 in February, this is definitely something I am taking advantage of. Spending time outside is good for the soul, too. Plus, I would like to get our puppy, Bailey, a little more “in shape” so she is ready to do some more hikes come summertime!

3. Play board games.

We probably do not take advantage of board games enough, but this is definitely one of my favorite things to do. Board games and cards. Also, it is a great way to entertain company!

4. Bake or make a nice dinner.

Instead of going out to eat and spending four times as much on food at a restaurant, get creative and have a fancy dinner at home. It doesn’t even have to be fancy. Make a night of it, though! You can even look up new recipes, dinner or desserts, and try them out. Almost like a “cooking class” in your own home.

5. Take advantage of the library.

Libraries are great for free books and movies. Do not forget about it when you're thinking about buying that book that isn't necessary to have. Also, our library has day passes to things like the museum. Look into that!

6. Look into parks or zoos.

Sometimes, like the St. Louis zoo, you can get into places for free or cheap. We have a State Park that is $7 to get a car into. A simple search will most likely show you places nearby that you can get into. Don't settle for your same old just because, look things up!

I hope this helps you enjoy time with your family without breaking the bank! Don't be stressed over money because you'll never have fun that way.
